The 1175th Military
Police Company began as Company C "Charlie" of the 175th
Military Police Battalion, organized and Federally recognized on
13 April 1949. The unit was ordered into active Federal service
on 11 September 1950 in Columbia and did not revert back to
state control until 9 February 1955.
"On
the 1st of August (1951), the 175th Military
Police Battalion (a Missouri National Guard unit
called up for active duty as part of the Troop Augmentation
program to bolster the Seventh Army in Germany) sailed (from New
York) aboard the U.S.S. General William Mitchell. The
next ten days, spent at sea, were comparatively leisurely ones
for men accustomed to the discipline and rigors of training....
In the month of October, the battalion participated in
Operation Jupiter and Exercise Combine, the largest
maneuver to be held by the American Army since the end of the
war. For over two weeks, the men lived in the field, ate from
their mess gear and slept in pup tents, performing the traffic
duties for Seventh Army, operating a Prisoner of War enclosure
and acting as a security guard for Seventh Army Headquarters,
including the numerous and varied administrative functions. " [read

Detachment 1, Company C
Boonville,
Missouri
175th Military Police Battalion
|
January 1968 |
|
|
In 1968 the unit was divided when it
received a detachment at Boonville, Missouri.
The history of the Boonville
detachment is unrivaled by any in Missouri.
It started at least as early as
1812. During this period of time Boonville did not exist but
there were five forts near the river in this area. Captain
Sarshall Cooper of which Cooper County is named after (county
seat is Boonville) commanded the unit. Cooper was killed by
Indians in 1825. Linsay Carson, father of the famous Kit
Carson, was another member of the unit. Local militia units
served in the Mexican War, Civil War, World War I, and World
War II.
For several years Boonville was part of the 128th
Field Artillery Battalion. In January 1968 it became
Detachment 1 of the 1175th Military Police
Company. It is interesting to note that the Boonville unit was
first on state emergency duty in 1924 (Missouri River Flood);
in 1925 (MKT Railroad Strike) and in 1967 at Woolridge and
Overton (Missouri River Flood).

United States to deploy overseas with MTOE equipment. Other
training highlights include overseas deployments for training to
Honduras in 1986 and Panama in 1991, 1992, and 1995.
The 1175th was selected
to support the Governor’s Inauguration on several occasions. It
was also selected to provide security for the Adjutant General’s
Conference at Little Rock, Arkansas on two separate occasions.
The unit provided the Military Police Contingent for the USPFO
dedication at Ike Skelton Training Site and the Adjutant

several Missouri Military Police units to be deactivated. It
was one of the first Missouri units served with distinction. |
