from the 1SG: 1SG Orlando
dino.j.orlando@us.army.mil
[See the "1SG (First Sergeant) Comments" for the
latest news from 1SG Orlando]
The commander is
the only one authorized to excuse a soldier from any drill or military
event, the Platoon Sergeants will contact me after they have approved
of your absence. But as in the past it has to be a legitimate
reason. Work, playing football, locked up in jail etc. etc. are not
valid reasons to miss drill.
If the
Commander excuses a soldier from drill, that Platoon Sergeant has
to make sure that soldier notifies SFC Britton (terry.j.britton@us.army.mil)
with the dates they request for make-up drill, reason drill is
being missed, and ensure they show up for the drill dates of the
agreement.
This drill we will
have several soldiers with us from other units, most of these soldiers
will become your new family for the next year to year and a half. Get
to know them, show them around, and help them out until they get
acclimated to our building and unit.
LEADER BOOKS:
Leader Books will be updated
each and every month, no exceptions.
FIRST LINE LEADER COURSE:
All
soldiers needing to attend the mandatory First Line Leader Course have
been programmed to attend see the training section for a listing of
who is programmed for schools/training.

volunteers. As of right now we only have 3 volunteers. In order for us to
have a fully functional FRG we need a minimum of 10 personnel. If
anyone is interested please contact SGT Maynard.

Medical
and Health Care Information (S-1):
Individual responsibility:
-
Each ARNG/ARNGUS Soldier is individually
responsible for the maintenance of his or her medical, physical, and
mental fitness. This includes correcting remediable defects, avoiding
harmful habits, and weight control. The maintenance of good strength
and aerobic conditioning is of prime importance to the modern Soldier.
The APFT is the level of activity that may be expected from the ARNG/ARNGUS
Soldier in the normal range of duties.
Significant incident reporting responsibility:
-
Soldiers’ responsibilities include seeking medical
advice quickly when they believe their physical well-being is in
question. Any hospitalization, significant illness, or disease that
occurs when not on duty will be reported to the unit commander or
first sergeant at the earliest possible opportunity and, in all cases,
before initiating the next period of training.

Attention!! ARNG Incentives have been updated:
Non
Prior Service Bonuses are back to $20,000 for 6X2 option. Soldiers
can extend at anytime during their contract for a period of six years
to become eligible for the “Student Loan Repayment Option”. Soldiers
can also reenlist for six years at their ETS date and receive the
$15,000 bonus plus the $20,000 SLRP option. You can receive payment
for loans established ON or AFTER your contact date.
This is great for people who already have their BS or BA degrees and
can’t use state TA anymore. For those soldiers who will ETS when the
unit is overseas remember that if you reenlist overseas your bonus
payment will be one lump sum tax free. That saves you about $4,000.
Also, if you have anyone who might be interested in the Guard please
feel free to contact me at anytime.
Thanks
again.
